Addendum : Jan 18, 2002: The US has sent special forces, support and technical staff to the Mindanao region of the Southern Philippines to assist local troops who are fighting the Abu Sayyaf Muslim terrorists  identified by Washington as part of bin Laden's Al Qaida terrorist network.
Addendum : Jan  01, 2002: Nur Musuari still in Malaysia.
Addendum : Nov 20, 2001: President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, now visiting the US, placed Governer Nur Misuari under "preventive suspension," meaning he could not exercise his powers as governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
"There are many reports that he ordered his group to attack. But we must give him due process. He has yet to talk.. In the meantime... he'll be placed on preventive suspension." Rigoberto Tiglao said in an interview from the United States with Manila's dzMM radio.

Neither "The Tripoli Agreement of  December 1976"  nor making Moros the "Governers" will bring peace.  Peace accords do not work with Islamic terrorists and even if it works it is a temporary phenomenon. So the step of "suspension" of Nur Misuari needs to be welcomed, but its not sufficient.

Islamic uprising in the Roman Catholic country of Philippines

Hundreds of  Muslim terrorists staged an armed uprising in the southern Philippine island of Jolo on Nov 19,  reneging on a 1996 peace deal and raising a major challenge for President Gloria Arroyo's government.  More than 50 people, most of them terrorists were killed in the fighting.    This occurred while Arroyo was visiting the US.  Philippines has been asking for military aid to fight several groups of Islamic terrorists in its country.

Residents said air force bombers and helicopter gunships were pounding areas held by the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) terrorists.  Unconfirmed reports said that the MNLF forces had seized an army outpost near the town of Indanan of Jolo.  The MNLF is the biggest Muslim terrorist group in the country which had signed the peace accord with the government in 1996.

Armed followers of MNLF chief Nur Misuari launched the attacks a week before Muslims in the south of the country were to hold elections.  Nur  Misuari  is the governor of Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and MNLF members personally loyal to him have bitterly opposed fresh elections to the post to be held on Nov 26.  After the 1996 peace accord Misauari was given the ARMM governorship, under which he enjoyed some autonomy. But now it seems that he wants to go back to the original demand of an Independent Islamic state.

According to reuters -- "This could be a move to embarrass the president while she is in the United States, to project an image that she's not in control or the armed forces are not in control," Presidential spokesman Rigoberto Tiglao told reporters.

International connection of Islamic terrorists in Philippines with the Al-Qaida network.

Governer of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM),  Nur Misuari has formed an alliance with Abu Sayyaf terrorist group. Misuari needs to be treated like Abduragak Abubakar Janjalani, who led the Abu Sayyaf group until December 1998. Janjalani  was killed by the police in the Lamitan village in Basilan Island.  Janjalani was a veteran of the Afghan war and during his participation in the war he developed close ties with other Islamic terrorist groups. He strongly opposed the peace process between the Government of the Philippines and the MNLF, and demanded an independent Islamic state.  Nur Misuari is no less than Janjalani.

It has been revealed earlier that the Abu Sayyaf group works closely with the Al-Qaida network of  Osama bin laden. The Abu Sayyaf is holding an American missionary couple hostage on the nearby island of Basilan. Sooner or later even Moro Islamic Liberation Front ( MILF ) may even join the network.  This way the network will be tightly bound and muslims can have a united jihad in Philippines.

The jihadis in Philippines are actively supported by the terrorist groups in Indonesia,  Malaysia, Iran and Libya. In the past Libya has provided sanctuary for some of the top MNLF leaders and did not deny that it had provided various forms of aid. In Nov 1980,  Iran had MNLF office in Teheran and was given official recognition by the Iranian government. Most of the Islamic terrorist take refuge in Malaysia and Indonesia and operate from these countries.

Abu Sayyaf, MNLF, MILF, BMLO are all linked to Al-Qaida against which US is waging a war.

India, Israel, Philippines, Macedonia, Russia and most recently the US has faced terrorist attacks.  Many more countries have,  and will in future be attacked by Terrorists.  Terrorism is the  enemy of Human civilization, Islamic Terrorism being the worst form of it.
